Welcome to Central Texas and Flash Flood Alley

Central Texas on average receives 34 inches of rainfall a year compared to Seattle’s 38 inches. You might want to read that again; we receive almost as much rainfall as Seattle. The difference is we tend to get all our rainfall at once making our region one of the most flash flood prone on the continent. We are in between the Balcones Escarpment and the coastal plain, this change in the elevation of the landscape causes more intense rainfall to stall in the area creating the perfect conditions for flash flooding. A small stream can turn into a raging river in a matter of hours rather than days.
